Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
It’s thrilling and a little overwhelming to plan a trip around the world. When Jens and I first started talking about this trip, we literally got out the boys’ globe and spun it around. There was a lot of excitement, trepidation and negotiating to pick the destinations. I can’t believe we’re really doing this! Off we go…
- Tonga – Sail a catamaran around the islands. Snorkel and swim every day.
- Australia – Rent an RV and drive down the coast from the Great Barrier Reef to Sydney. Camp, surf, and slow down.
- China – Explore Beijing’s history from the Forbidden City to the Great Wall.
- Tanzania – Track the big cats on a safari through the Serengeti.
- United Arab Emirates – Long layover in Dubai, the modern desert oasis. Ride a camel.
- Germany – Visit Jens’ relatives from Munich to Berlin. Drive on the autobahn, visit a castle, drink beer.
- Spain – Take in the architecture, culture, and food on the Mediterranean coast.
We know we are extremely fortunate to be able to do this. I mean really, this is crazy good luck. Growing up in Kansas, most of my vacations were driving to Grandma’s house. I wouldn’t have dreamed a trip like this was possible.
At 10 years old the boys are curious, active and adept. They haven’t yet hit the pre-teen angst and attitude that would drive us all nuts. They still want to hang with us, so we’re taking full advantage of that.
These destinations are all new to us, with the exception of Germany. There is a mix of beach, adventure, culture and history. We hope the boys’ eyes will open to entirely new ways of life, and we’ll be right there, just as in awe as they are.
I’ll keep you posted on our adventures this summer. Or better yet, come join us!
