The Sails

The Sails

During pre-trip negotiations with Jens, I only agreed to go camping in the Australian winter on the condition that we also come to Sydney to visit The Opera House. Btw, I’m so glad we did both!

Ever since I was a girl, I’ve wanted to visit the Sydney Opera House. It captured my imagination and expanded my view of what art and architecture could be. More than any other iconic skyline, this building inspired my desire to travel.

It did not disappoint. The tour this morning highlighted the spherical architectural structure and the massive amount of effort and time to design and build this beautiful space.

IMG_0836While in Sydney, our friend Chris hooked us up with tickets to see an AFL game. We didn’t entirely know what was going on, but the athleticism was impressive and the energy infectious. Even the flag wielding goal umpires appear to relish their job and perform it with gusto. From my untrained observation, the game appears to be a combination of football, soccer and hot potato. While scanning the crowd with the kiss cam, they played Neil Diamond. What’s with the Aussies and 80s music?

This was our first big city destination and Airbnb stay.  A big contrast to our first 3 weeks on the boat and then the RV in much less populated areas.
